There are a handful of different ways to reach this peak, including Millcreek Canyon, The Wasatch Crest Trail, Holly's Trail, and Toll Canyon. In my opinion, the most logical way to ascend is via Rob's Trail from Sun Peak. Head up Rob's to the end (about 2 miles), until you reach an obvious intersection. Staying your course, walk a few steps straight past the intersection until the trail turns left (this is Ambush trail). Follow Ambush left for a while and then up the switchback, at which point you will be on Mid-Mountain. A few large switchbacks will take you back and forth across the ski run. In due time, you will come up onto the ridge and find yourself looking at a sign for Murdock Peak. The trail is narrow and steep, but will take you to another ridge, at which point you can follow the trail to the 9,602-foot summit. There's a good chance you'll be alone up here, so make yourself at home and enjoy the views over the ski resort, Millcreek, and the Great Salt Lake before starting on your return journey.
